ABSTRACT
This paper discusses the link between empirical research on expositive academic discourse and the development of appropriate teaching materials for both the teaching and assessing of student’s production of this kind of texts.
It tackles three areas of interest, and their impact on non-native adscription of students’ texts: the role of L1-L2 genre literacy  in the building of text macro- and super-structures; the importance of the presence, or absence, of some linguistic elements used as “productive devices” in the bootstrapping of L2 macrostructure, as well as the role of the native performance as the “baseline for comparison”. All the above aspects are dealt with in the context of a for Spanish L2 language course. The research subjects are B2 level learners in a University environment.
